As a child I used to love playing doctor. I carried around my doctor bag everywhere I went; patching up scrapes and handing out sugar pills.
Fast forward to my early teens when I developed severe, recurrent abdominal pains and visited several doctors in search of a remedy. No one seemed interested in figuring out why I was having symptoms and the only treatment offered was an anti-depressant medication. I knew depression wasn't the cause of my pain so I started pursuing nutritional changes on my own, and simultaneously gave up on my dream of practicing medicine. I just didn't want to be in a profession that only had one tool in their kit, especially when that tool was prescriptions pills designed to numb the problem.
After graduating college with a dream of opening a bakery for those with food sensitivities I began to research graduate programs for dietitians interested in alternative nutrition. This is how I stumbled on Bastyr University and discovered the field of naturopathic medicine. Just 2 weeks after making this discovery I registered for classes and began completing my prerequisites for admission to the Naturopathic Physician program at Bastyr.
After I graduated I jumped straight into full-time practice with the amazing physicians at Evergreen Center for Integrative Medicine. I learned so much in those first 4 years, seeing high volumes of very ill patients- mastering IV therapy, learning regenerative injections, honing my physical medicine skills and becoming a jedi at de-coding complex chronic illness.
All this perfectly prepared me to open my solo practice, Earth Naturopathic, in my hometown, after the birth of my son. Now here we are 4 years later and celebrating 4 years in business!
Clinical skills aside, my real superpower is my love of learning, which allows me to constantly revitalize and refine my practice. This means constantly expanding my toolkit, for me, but also for my clients and our community in general.
Finally, I'll leave you with some interesting facts about me, that just so happen to benefit you:
-I have a passion for needles! I vowed that if I had to do blood draws or injections I'd do them well because I hate being stuck with needles by unskilled hands (it hurts!).
I've also experience the miracle healing abilities of regenerative injection therapies such as PRP, prolotherapy, ozone therapy and IV therapy so I definitely wanted to offer these services to my clients.
Word on the street is that I achieved my goal: Im great with a needle!
-My hands were built for healing. I also love using non-invasive physical medicine therapies such as craniosacral therapy, and visceral manipulation to help unwind trauma and reintegrate the mind-body-spirit connection. These modalities literally prevented me from dropping out of medical school at the peak of my stress and mold toxicity.
-Most recently my passions have take me beyond the physical body to optimize the mental body, emotional body and spiritual body. You'll see options to dive deeper into each of the four bodies all over this website!
These skills have improved my relatioships, my ability to resolve conflicts with ease, and the way I run my business.
-I almost choose art school over medicine. I still love creating all kinds of things- jewelry, greeting cards, wall art and even designing furniture! My ability to think creatively gives me a unique perspective on health and wellness that I have coined, The Art of Medicine.
